Have you ever visited the Flickr website? The great photographs site? Then you may know or not know that at their home page they showcase the most beautiful pictures, and they have added an amazing, almost hypnotic effect to them. I could not figure out what it was, looked at the page code, asked my website developer, still had no clue. The only thing I knew was I WANT THAT TOO!

While fooling around with one of the Mac apps on my macbook (front row), I saw that the automatically generated slide show of the pictures on my hard drive had the same effect. Ahah. So by digging into the slide show creation techniques, I found out that this “making still picture move”, is called the “Ken Burns” effect and that everybody worth their salt (how about great culinary expressions, right?) knows about it. I didn’t, but now I do. So I will be fooling around with it and create some animated food pics. I guess I should not make the comparison to Food Porn again…

For you also link to one of the resources describing this wonderful technique.

Here a too funny Flickr pic. This is another great Curious Food Lover´s perspective on reality and some centuries ago the ultimate way to present food at royal banquets; playing “dress-up” with food.

EU gets ‘Euro-leaf’ logo for organic food

New EU leaf logo

The logo will soon appear on food packages across the EU

A new EU-wide “Euro-leaf” logo will be compulsory from 1 July for all pre-packaged organic food produced in any of the 27 EU member states.

The green logo, featuring the 12 EU stars in the shape of a leaf, will be optional for imported produce.

Existing national logos for organic food will be allowed to appear next to the new EU logo.

A German student won a competition to design the new symbol. Dusan Milenkovic got a prize of 6,000 euros (£5,254).

Some 130,000 people voted online to choose the symbol and Mr Milenkovic’s entry got 63% of the overall vote. The competition was organised by the European Commission

Interesting travel website, could not really figure out the angle: apparently companies can promote the tours they offer (including several kinds of culinary tours), you can make “guides” – lists with recommended activities and you can browse through information about countries. Mainly looks like an original display window for what companies have to offer.

Funny coincidence: I had never thought one moment about the phenomenon “giant vegetable shows” until a few moments ago. I am doing a bit of work, with the tv turned on in as “living wallpaper”. Right now there I am sort of watching one of my favourite cartoons: Wallace & Grommit. The current movie is called ” Wallace and Grommit is n the curse of the were-rabbit”. It inspired me to have to do a quick search for picture from the movie. Those I did not find, I did find real life giant vegetable shows though!
